Get in on the ground floor with the playwrights of tomorrow, in these workshop productions of student one-acts!

Wish in One Hand by Jarrett Galante
Directed by Leila Brown

Friendship isn’t what it used to be for Dirk, a weed dealer, and Chomp, his best client. A farce about zombies, tacos, and something very strange lying under the rock in the backyard.

For the Dead and Lonely by Hollis LeGate
Directed by Euan Ashley

Natalie discovers she’s dead, and Death is busy trying to shuffle her and other souls out of Limbo.  But Death has his own issues, and turns out to be a lot more complicated that Natalie would have imagined.  A tender, funny, and thoughtful journey into finding one’s final destination.

Additionally, the Senior Project A Peek Behind the Curtain will be attending auditions.  Stage management will ask you at the time of your audition if, in addition to being considered for Power Lines, you would like to be considered for A Peek Behind the Curtain.  It is possible to be cast in both Power Lines and in the A Peek Behind the Curtain Senior Project.  They are part of the same festival.

A PEEK BEHIND THE CURTAIN
Senior Project led by Aissa Simbulan

A Peek Behind the Curtain will show and discuss technician's involvement from concept to post-show duties in an over-exaggerated and performative manner.  It is a mix of a presentation and a performance.  The goal of this project is to show the unseen work that technicians do for a show.  There are spoken parts, which is the presentation part, then the performance part is more movement.  Organizationally, there are 3 parts: the concept of the show, building the show, and working on the show.

Audition Details

Audition Dates/Location

AUDITIONS
Thursday & Friday, Feb. 1 & 2, 6-9pm, Ives 119

Audition Format

Please prepare two contrasting monologues, at least one of which is contemporary.  If you do not have two contrasting monologues, please prepare a single monologue.  If you do not have a monologue, we will give you something to study and read at the audition.  Acting majors:  please make every effort to come in with at least one if not two monologues.

Auditioners should be prepared to sing 'Happy Birthday' unaccompanied, just to get a general sense of your singing voice.  If you are not comfortable singing in your audition, just let us know.

To Sign Up

To Sign Up, you must read all the information on this webpage and:

  1. Fill out the Audition Questionnaire

  2. Sign up for an audition time on this SIGN-UP FORM

  3. Email hitchcockh@sonoma.edu to get copies of the plays to read before auditions.  The plays are fairly short, it is important for you to know what you are auditioning for.

Walk-ins are welcome but must still fill out the Audition Questionnaire.

By auditioning, you are agreeing to be considered for either play.  Generally, most actors are cast in either one play or the other, and usually not in both.

Commitments

Acting roles open to currently enrolled SSU students only.
Actors cast must enroll in THAR 302:003 for Spring 2024. If you are over units, we are happy to complete the appropriate form for you to be able to participate.

CONFLICTS:  Please note that due to conflicts between POWER LINES rehearsals and IN THE HEIGHTS rehearsals and performances, if you are performing or teching IN THE HEIGHTS, you may still audition, but may not be considered for major roles.
